A Word on Translation Approaches

The challenge in providing an accurate Bible translation is that words do not have identical meanings from one language to another. There are similar words, but these can have differences in nuance, tense and other challenges.  Bible scholars choose one of two approaches to Bible translation:  Literal translation or Dynamic translation, or a compromise between these two approaches.

Literal Translation

Emphasizes accurate word-for-word translation, sacrificing sentence structure and flow for the best possible word translation.  Examples of literal translation offered by IBG include the ESV, New King James, King James, NASB and RSV.  In Spanish, the Rene Valera (RVR). These translations tend to more accurately present the original Greek or Hebrew wording but may be more difficult to read or comprehend, especially for those with limited reading skills and vocabulary.

Dynamic Translation

Focuses on translating thought accuracy over word accuracy.  Dynamic translations tend to do more sentence restructuring and more creative rewording to more accurately capture the thought of the original wording in an easier to read and comprehend format.  Examples of Dynamic translations offered by IBG include the NIV, NIrV and NLT.  In Spanish, we offer the NVI. We also offer the CSB translation which seeks to blend both translation approaches.

Foreign Language Bibles

IBG sources ~138 foreign language Bibles from a variety of sources.  Some languages are not always available, but we can often find them with persistence.  The majority of foreign-language Bibles we source are Literal Translations; however, more Dynamic translations are available each year. Contact IBG at Biblegivers@gmail.com for foreign language requests.

IBG encourages couriers and ministries receiving Bibles to consider which Bible translation will work best for your ministry context.

Consider whether a full Bible is best for your ministry. If a New Testament or the Gospel of John meets your needs, we can supply many more copies.

We offer a dozen English translations, several Spanish translations, and ~138 other foreign-language translations.
